Heartbreaking: Big Python Swallowed 1-Year-Old Baby in Yankari Game Reserve, "zoo" Bauchi State (Photos)

        

In a heart-wrenching tragedy that has left a community in mourning, a 1-year-old baby was reportedly  by a massive python at the popular Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State.


The horrifying incident occurred in a secluded area of the reserve on Thursday afternoon, where a family had gone for a picnic. According to eyewitnesses, the child had wandered a short distance away from the picnic spot when the tragedy struck. Moments later, frantic cries from the mother alerted nearby visitors and staff, but it was already too late.




It happened so fast," said a shaken park staff member, who asked to remain anonymous. "One moment the baby was playing near the trees, and the next, we saw the python coiled around something. By the time we got there, the child was gone."


The python, which wildlife experts estimate to be over 20 feet long, was later located and subdued by park rangers. Efforts were made to recover the child’s body, but officials say the trauma has left the family and community in deep sorrow.


The management of Yankari Game Reserve has yet to issue an official statement, but sources say an internal investigation is underway to determine how such a dangerous encounter could happen within a supposedly secured section of the park.
