A heartbreaking incident occurred this morning in Enugu State, leaving the local community in shock and mourning. A dedicated auto mechanic, simply identified as Chidi, tragically lost his life after being crushed while servicing a customer’s truck.


According to eyewitnesses at the mechanic village near Emene, the accident happened around 9:30 AM. Chidi had been working beneath the heavy-duty vehicle when, tragically, the truck suddenly slipped off its jack and collapsed on him.


Efforts by fellow mechanics and passersby to rescue him proved futile, as the impact of the fall was fatal. By the time emergency services arrived at the scene, Chidi had already succumbed to his injuries.


Photos from the scene show a deeply distressing sight — a once-busy mechanic workshop turned into a place of sorrow, with onlookers gathered in disbelief. Some of the images capture the crushed undercarriage of the truck and personal belongings scattered at the site.


Chidi was known in the area for his hard work, dedication, and friendly demeanor. Fellow mechanics described him as a young man with big dreams who was passionate about his work. “He was always early to the shop, always willing to help,” one colleague shared, barely holding back tears.


This tragic event has sparked renewed calls for stricter safety measures in mechanic workshops, especially when handling large vehicles. Many believe that with better equipment and proper safety protocols, accidents like this can be prevented.


Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The owner of the truck, who was reportedly on the scene at the time, is said to be cooperating with the police.


As the Enugu community mourns this painful loss, social media has also erupted with messages of condolences and outrage over the avoidable nature of the tragedy.
