Nigerian Man and his entire Family all d..ied after eating rice that wall gecko fell inside (Video) ‎

A heart-wrenching tragedy has struck a community in southern Nigeria after a man and his entire family reportedly died following the consumption of a meal suspected to have been contaminated by a wall gecko.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, has left neighbors and residents of the area in shock. According to eyewitness reports and a circulating video online, the family—comprising the man, his wife, and their four children—had eaten a pot of rice the previous night, unaware that a wall gecko had allegedly fallen into the food during or after preparation.

Shortly after the meal, members of the household began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, dizziness, and loss of consciousness. Despite efforts by neighbors to rush them to a nearby clinic, all six individuals were confirmed dead on arrival.

The viral video, which we will not share out of respect for the deceased, shows distraught community members gathered outside the family's home, crying and expressing disbelief over the shocking loss.

What Experts Say

While the death of the family is still under investigation, medical experts have long warned about the potential dangers of food contamination by reptiles like wall geckos, which are common in many Nigerian homes. Though not all species are venomous, some secrete toxins that can be harmful—especially if ingested.

Veterinary toxicologist Dr. Joseph Akindele stated:

> "The droppings and skin secretions of some reptiles can carry harmful bacteria or toxins. If a wall gecko falls into a pot of food, especially if it dies and remains unnoticed, there's a high risk of foodborne illness or poisoning."

Community Reactions

Neighbors described the family as humble, peaceful, and well-loved within the neighborhood. One resident said:

> "This is something that could happen to anyone. We all have geckos crawling around, especially during the rainy season. It’s terrifying to think that something so small could cause so much pain."

Preventive Measures for Households

In light of this tragedy, health officials are urging the public to take extra precautions when preparing and storing food at home:

Always cover pots of food, even if left to cool.

Inspect kitchen utensils and spaces for signs of pests or reptiles.

Use fine mesh screens on windows and vents to reduce gecko entry.

Clean kitchen surfaces regularly and remove open food that might attract insects (which geckos feed on).

Authorities have promised a full investigation, including toxicology tests, to confirm the exact cause of death.

This devastating story serves as a chilling reminder of how crucial food safety and hygiene are—especially in homes where children and vulnerable individuals
