Heartbreaking: Woman Buries Her Stepson Alive for Allegedly Stealing N1,000 — Apprehended by Police in Kogi State (Photos)

In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, a woman in Kogi State has been arrested after allegedly burying her stepson alive for reportedly stealing N1,000 from her handbag.

The horrifying event occurred in a rural community on the outskirts of Lokoja, the state capital. According to eyewitnesses, the woman, whose identity has been withheld pending further investigation, became furious after discovering that her 10-year-old stepson had taken money from her bag without permission.

What began as a domestic dispute quickly escalated into an act of cruelty that has left the entire community in disbelief. Neighbors reported hearing the boy's cries coming from the backyard but initially assumed he was being disciplined. It wasn’t until one neighbor, concerned by the intensity of the boy’s screams, went to investigate and discovered the child partially buried in a shallow grave.

The boy, bruised and terrified, was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention. Medical professionals have confirmed that the boy is in stable condition but deeply traumatized by the incident.

Local police were immediately called to the scene, and the woman was apprehended without resistance. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to the act, claiming it was meant as a “lesson” to prevent further theft.

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect will be charged with attempted murder and child abuse. "This is a grave criminal offense, and justice will be served,” said a spokesperson for the police.

Photos from the scene — which we have chosen not to publish due to their graphic nature — show the shallow grave and the child’s belongings scattered nearby. The images have sparked outrage across social media, with many calling for stricter penalties for domestic abuse and child endangerment.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence. The child remains in protective custody while authorities continue their investigation.
