Nigerian woman goes M.a.d Over News Of D.eath Of Her New Born Baby She Waited Seven Years To Have (photos)

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Nigerian woman who had waited seven long, prayerful years to have a child has reportedly gone “M.A.D” — Mentally and Deeply Distraught — after receiving devastating news of her newborn baby’s death just days after birth.

Photos and eyewitness accounts from the scene have since gone viral on social media, stirring a mix of sorrow, anger, and sympathy from netizens around the world.

The Journey to Motherhood

For Mrs. Amaka (surname withheld for privacy), the journey to motherhood was nothing short of a battlefield. After facing multiple miscarriages, medical complications, and social pressure, she and her husband finally celebrated a successful pregnancy late last year.

Family, friends, and even their local church community had rejoiced with the couple. Baby showers were held, prophetic declarations made, and a nursery was beautifully set up in their modest home in Enugu State. Amaka often shared updates online, calling her unborn child her “testimony in human form.”

The Shocking Tragedy

Tragedy struck just three days after she delivered a healthy baby boy at a private hospital in the city. According to family sources, Amaka had briefly returned home to rest while the baby remained under postnatal care at the hospital due to mild jaundice — a common but usually treatable condition in newborns.

It was during her recovery at home that the unthinkable happened.

“She got a call around 11:43 a.m. from the hospital,” her younger sister, Ifeoma, said through tears. “They told her, ‘Madam, we’re sorry… your baby stopped breathing in the early hours of the morning.’ She froze. Then she screamed and collapsed.”

Grief Turns to Mental Breakdown

Since that call, Amaka has reportedly been inconsolable. Neighbors say she began acting erratically — talking to walls, breastfeeding an empty wrapper, and asking people to help her find her “sleeping baby.”

Medical personnel and religious leaders were called in immediately. She is now under psychiatric evaluation at a federal hospital, with doctors attributing her condition to acute postpartum trauma coupled with unresolved grief.

Her husband, visibly shaken in the photos taken outside the hospital, has asked for privacy and prayers. “We waited seven years,” he said, “and now this? I don’t even know how to breathe right now.”

Outpouring of Support

Since the news broke, Nigerians both home and abroad have taken to social media using the hashtag #PrayForAmaka, calling for increased mental health support for grieving mothers and stricter hospital accountability.

Some are also questioning the circumstances surrounding the baby's sudden death, demanding a full investigation into possible medical negligence. “A baby doesn’t just die like that,” one user wrote. “Someone needs to explain.”
