In a chilling case that has left the residents of Ezeagu Local Government Area in Enugu State in utter shock, a couple has been arrested for allegedly murdering their two biological children and selling their body parts for ritual purposes. According to early reports, the gruesome act was motivated by severe financial hardship.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest earlier today after responding to a tip-off from concerned neighbors who had noticed the sudden absence of the children, aged 5 and 8. Upon investigation, law enforcement discovered disturbing evidence linking the couple to ritualistic practices and the black market trade in human body parts.

During interrogation, the couple reportedly confessed to conspiring to end the lives of their own children after being approached by a suspected ritualist who promised them a substantial financial reward in exchange for body parts. The heartbreaking incident has triggered outrage and mourning in the community, with many questioning how economic desperation could drive parents to commit such an unthinkable act.

One eyewitness said:

> "They were quiet and kept to themselves. No one suspected they could do something so evil. We are still trying to believe this really happened in our town."

Photos taken at the time of the arrest show the couple surrounded by stunned residents and security operatives. Cries of disbelief echoed through the community as officers led the suspects away in handcuffs.

The police have launched a full investigation into the case and are currently working to apprehend the alleged buyer(s) involved in the ritual ring. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and that all those connected to this heinous crime will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Enugu State Police said:

> “This is one of the most disturbing cases we’ve encountered. We urge citizens facing economic hardship not to resort to crime. There are legal and moral ways to seek help.”

Human rights advocates and child welfare organizations have condemned the incident, calling it a tragic symptom of a deeper national crisis — the intersection of poverty, superstition, and the breakdown of social values.
