Heartbreaking! Two friends lose their lives of food poisoning after eating mango and fanta together for tiktok challenge trend (see shocking photos )

In a devastating incident that has shaken an entire community, two young friends have tragically lost their lives after participating in a dangerous TikTok challenge involving the consumption of mango and Fanta. The trend, which has been circulating on social media for weeks, encourages participants to mix various fruits with soft drinks to create “weird but fun” reactions — but this time, the result turned deadly.

According to local reports, the two friends — both teenagers — had seen the viral challenge online and decided to try it out. They filmed themselves consuming large amounts of mango followed by Fanta, laughing and dancing for the camera. Hours later, both began to complain of severe stomach pain and nausea.

Family members rushed them to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, the two were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Preliminary medical reports point to acute food poisoning as the cause of death, with the combination of the fruit acids and chemical additives possibly triggering a fatal reaction.

A Community in Mourning

Photos now circulating online show the two friends during happier times, with tributes pouring in from schoolmates, neighbors, and online followers who were stunned by the sudden loss. The families are said to be inconsolable.

“We only found out after checking their phones,” one parent tearfully shared. “They thought it was just fun — a challenge. Now they’re both gone.”

Dangers of Social Media Trends

This tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns about the growing number of risky challenges being promoted on social media platforms like TikTok. While many trends may seem harmless at first glance, experts warn that not all combinations are safe, especially when it comes to food and drink.

Nutritionist Amaka Obiora weighed in: “Mixing acidic fruits like mango with carbonated beverages may not be dangerous for everyone, but excessive consumption — especially on an empty stomach — can trigger severe reactions, especially in young people.”

A Call for Responsibility

As the story continues to trend online, many Nigerians are calling on TikTok and other platforms to do more to regulate dangerous content, and for parents to be more aware of what their children are consuming — both digitally and physically.
